Everton fullback Leighton Baines says the Carling Cup must be a priority this season.
The Toffees face Brentford this week.
"Brentford is a tough game," the twice-capped England defender told evertontv.
"When you play sides in the lower leagues it is like their cup final. You have to find a way to contain them and then you can play your football. We played well against Huddersfield in the previous round and we'll aim to do the same again.
"The cups are a real priority here and we want to do well in both of them. The League Cup is a good competition and it turns around quite quickly.
"You can get through a few rounds and all of a sudden you are in the latter stages when it is still quite early in the season. Hopefully we can get through to the next round and see where we go from there."
