Baines call for tighter Everton performances

Everton defender Leighton Baines has urged his side to do more to hold on to any leads they happen to cultivate.

Everton squandered a great chance of claiming three points against Norwich City after being held to a 1-1 draw despite dominating proceedings.

The Toffees were left kicking themselves after allowing Cameron Jerome to grab the equaliser in the second half and experienced left-back Baines has now called on his side not to be so complacent when holding on to an advantage.

Baines said: "We were so comfy in the first-half in terms of controlling the game and creating chances. But we didn't put them away and when you create that many chances you expect to get at least a second and maybe a third.

"But when you don't you allow the opposition to have a bit of hope. We wanted to start the second-half well but the worst thing we could've done was concede a goal from a set-piece.

"It was a poor goal to give up and from there it becomes end to end, which has happened in our last few games. We could score again but we could also concede again, we're too open.

"We have got to get better at controlling the game, ultimately, and keeping our composure. You see the top sides, and they might let a team back in, but they keep their composure and keep playing a certain way. We have got to learn a little bit."
