Bahrain stuns Uzbekistan in World Cup qualifier

Bahrain scored a late winner to upset Uzbekistan in Asian World Cup qualifying last night. Mahmood Adbulrahman netted a free-kick five minutes into stoppage time to stun the Uzbeks who were relatively poor in their performance and now find themselves on the bottom of the Group One table after dominating the earlier rounds.

Bahrain's Cezch coach Milan Macala was delighted with the result.

"It's a very good result for us," he said.

"We still have some away matches and I hope that we will battle for second spot in this group."

Bahrain now sits third in the group, four points behind second-placed Japan and six points behind leaders Australia.

Uzbek coach Mirdjalal Kasimov rued the misfortunes of his side.

"We were unlucky to miss a lot of chances," he said.

"Our players did not follow instructions...we lost but we will fight for every point in the remaining matches."
