Azpilicueta labels Pedro’s Chelsea debut as ‘amazing’

Cesar Azpilicueta has lauded Pedro Rodriguez's debut with Chelsea.

The Spanish forward stepped out for the first time with the Blues since arriving from Barcelona for £21.4million in Sunday's 3-2 victory over West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.

Pedro scored the opening goal just 20 minutes into his Premier League bow before supplying Diego Costa for Chelsea's second goal 10 minutes in what was a wonderful first outing according to new teammate Azpilicueta.

"It was an amazing debut, you couldn't think about a better day for him," the Spanish defender, who scored the West London club's third goal, told chelseafc.com.

"Obviously he scored but after the goal what he did during the game - pressing, movement into space, quality on the ball – showed he has fitted in really well. I think he has a lot of soul for the team.

"I know him from the national team, from the times I have played against him, and from watching him on TV. He has hunger, he has really good quality with the ball, he scores a lot of goals, and he knows how to find space. In defence he helps the team and he presses the ball.

"He is a man with a World Cup, a European Championship and three Champions Leagues. He has the experience and I know his ambition. He is hungry to help the team win trophies.

"In England a few details are different [to Spain], like the pace and the fact teams push until the end, even when they are losing. He is discovering the Premier League and I'm sure he will get better. He's a very good signing for us."Cesar Azpilicueta has lauded Pedro Rodriguez's debut with Chelsea.
