Azpilicueta hails 'Chelsea spirit' as Batshuayi brace overcomes Watford

Chelsea fought back from going 1-2 down to defeat a courageous Watford 3-2 at Stamford Bridge today.

Super-sub Michy Batshuayi came off the bench to score twice and help Chelsea get their title defence back on the rails.

Having gone into halftime with an injury-time effort from Abdoulaye Doucouré canceling out Pedro's screamer for Chelsea, Watford went 2-1 ahead on 49 minutes via Roberto Pereyra.

Blues manager Antonio Conte threw on Batshuayi on the hour for Alvaro Morata and was rewarded ten minutes later as the Belgian equalised. Batshuayi headed home a Pedro corner.

Cesar Azpilicueta then headed Chelsea ahead three minutes from time before Batshuayi bundled home his second and the hosts' fourth in extra time.

Azpilicueta, speaking to Sky Sports, declared: "We left it very late and we all had to dig in until the last minute - we showed our spirit. It wasn't our best win but it was important to get back to winning ways.

"We started really well and had chances to score a second but then conceded with the last kick of first half. The confidence is a bit low and that didn't help us. But we didn't give up and it was a big win for us.

"We went three games without winning and we have had difficult games so it was important to get back in the Premier League to winning ways.

"We know it is a long season and have ups and downs, we have had a difficult period and this is the first step."
