AZ Alkmaar have rejected a bid from Sunderland for Jozy Altidore.
The 23-year old American striker emerged as a target for the Black Cats following his 31 goals for Alkmaar last season but the Dutch club have rejected their initial advances.
"A first bid was insufficient. We have let them know that. Now we have to wait," an Alkmaar spokesman told ANP.
