AZ Alkmaar defender Ron Vlaar has paid tribute to Lazio stopper Stefan de Vrij.

Vlaar admits much has changed since they played together in the Brazil World Cup.

He said: "All the Netherlands wanted to win the World Cup. Then we met Brazil (in the final for third place) and the brilliant bronze gave us a great satisfaction.

"Along with Stefan de Vrij, we realized that we could not do more. With him I have a good relationship, we often talk. I really like how he is playing with Lazio and I want to go to Rome to see him."
