AZ Alkmaar's Holman: I would think about a good offer to leave

AZ Alkmaar midfielder Brett Holman has left the door ajar for a potential departure if any incoming offer was right for both he and the club.

The Australian international has emerged as a key player for the Dutch club but with AZ struggling to offer him an improved deal, he admits he may have to look at other possibilities.

''Of course I have ambitions. If there is a good club from a big league who are interested in me, then I am open to a new adventure," he told Voetbal International.

''I have a Dutch wife and child and we're fine here. I know I must respect AZ's wishes, but if the proposal is good, I must seriously think about it.''

But Alkmaar coach Gertjan Verbeek says he would love to retain Holman even if his salary is set to go down.

''Brett has signed a contract here in good time. Then he fell in the 30% tax regime but that is now 52%, so even if we offer him the same - and that's quite a challenge - even then his salary drops in real terms," he said.

''Let me be clear that Holman is someone we would really like to keep at AZ, but the limits of what we can afford are currently unclear.

''We are dealing with a new wage structure, and with the millions you have to cut you cannot be exempt whether you are the tea lady or the press secretary.

"If Brett would be satisfied with less, we are thrilled.''
