AZ Alkmaar coach upset with Altidore’s USA call-up
Jozy Altidore’s call-up to the USA national team for the weekend’s friendly with Costa Rica and Tuesday’s meeting with Belgium has angered AZ Alkmaar manager Gertjan Verbeek.
The 21-year old striker has started his Dutch Eredivisie career in fine fashion, scoring three goals in four matches, and Verbeek admits he tried to stop Juergen Klinsmann calling the talented Altidore up for the double header.
“I tried to stop it, but he was adamant,” Verbeek said.
“It’s pure self-interest of a man (Klinsmann) who only one year has been a club coach [Bayern Munich] and immediately fired.
“That says it all.”
Altidore played 62 minutes of Friday’s 1-0 loss to Costa Rica and is expected to start against the Belgians in Brussels on Tuesday.

Who cares if Jozy gets called or not? He's useless for the United States NT anyway. He couldn't finish if his life depended on it. In fact, I'm surprised at his good start at AZ.
this guys needs to shut his ***** mouth. It's an international. Jozy needs to be called to 100% of the official ones if he's in form. Tried to stop it my ass. Hell he should have made donovan go to belgium too.
Klins is a new national coach. He wants to see the players play in his mould/formation in front of his own eyes. I don't see a problem with that. This must be a dutch-german argument thing?
