AZ ace Altidore ties US scoring record

Jozy Altidore became just the sixth player in USA history to score goals in four consecutive matches on Tuesday.

The AZ Alkmaar striker netted the only goal as the US defeated Honduras 1-0 in Utah to take a massive step towards 2014 World Cup qualification.

Altidore has now scored in a friendly against Germany and in WC qualifying wins over Jamaica, Panama and Honduras in his past four outings to join William Lubbe, Eric Wynalda, Eddie Johnson, Brian McBride and Landon Donovan on the list of US players to achieve that feat.

His efforts did not go unnoticed by US boss Juergen Klinsmann who was full of praise for the in-form 23-year old.

"From Day 1 on, Jozy was spot-on," said Klinsmann. "The first training session in Cleveland he looked sharp, he looked good, he looked hungry.

"Even if the game itself was disappointing from a result point of view [a 4-2 loss to Belgium in the first warm-up match], we had the feeling that he was high-energy. He was looking forward to it. He was positive; he was coming off a tremendous season with Alkmaar on a personal level. And that's what we hoped that over the stretch of three or four weeks that he keeps on showing all those signs and I think that's what he did."
