Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre says club captain Steven Gerrard "will always be part of this football club", whether he decides to accept a new contract offer or not. The 34-year-old's current deal runs out at the end of the season and Ayre is hopeful Gerrard will decide to stay at Anfield, reports BBC Sport.
"We have made an offer to Steven and we have to be respectful to him and where he is in his career. There is no pressure from our side," said Ayre.
"He is an iconic part of this football club and we want to see him here for many years - and that is not just about his playing career."
