Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas has assured Jermain Defoe he'll see plenty of action this season.

Villas-Boas has assured the player that he will get enough minutes under his belt to try to impress England manager Roy Hodgson, who watched Defoe put in a rusty performance off the bench against Swansea on Sunday.

"I think he will get enough game time. It is a World Cup year for everybody," the Portuguese said.

"What we want from Jermain is performances like this and tonight he delivered."
