Australian national team to play at Adelaide Oval

Adelaide Oval is set to host an international football match for the first time in over half a century according to reports. The iconic South Australian venue, home of the South Australian Cricket Association, will be the location for an international friendly involving the Australian national team and Serbia in June suggests the Adelaide Advertiser.

Football Federation Australia CEO Ben Buckley said that Adelaide being a strong football city would bode well for the final call on where the match is played.

"It is our aim to continue to take the Qantas Socceroos to all of our major cities and Adelaide is a very strong football city," Buckley said.

"It is true we have not played there for some time but I am hopeful that will change in the near future.

"It is fair to say that South Australians are great supporters of football and they deserve to see their national team."

Socceroos stars Tim Cahill, Mark Schwarzer, Harry Kewell and Brett Holman are all expected to play in the match despite the venue not being finalised yet.

The last time the Adelaide Oval played host to an international match was back in 1958 when the Aussies took on English club Blackpool at the venue.
