Australian keeper Ryan honoured to take Valencia armband in Bournemouth friendly

Mat Ryan was delighted to be given the chance to captain Valencia in their pre-season friendly with Bournemouth.

Los Che travelled to the south coast of England to take on the Cherries on Wednesday night and came away with a 1-1 draw after Enzo Perez's quality first-half opener was cancelled out by Benik Afobe late in the game.

Taking the armband for the Spanish side was Australian goalkeeper Ryan and the 24-year-old admitted it was a great thrill to be handed such a responsibility by manager Pako Ayestaran.

"I am happy because today the coach has picked me," Ryan told reporters.

"Each opportunity I try to do the best possible.

"I am very proud to have been the captain, it is an honour."

Regarding Valencia's performance at the Vitality Stadium, Ryan added: "We are improving in each game but there is still some improving to do."
