Australian goalkeeping coach Franken backs Liverpool's Bouzanis

Australia's national team goalkeeping coach Tony Franken believes young Liverpool shot-stopper Dean Bouzanis will be a prominent figure when the 2014 World Cup comes around.

The 19-year old is currently plying his trade on loan with English League Two outfit Accrington Stanley and although his number one goal would be to sneak into the Socceross squad for South Africa, Franken believes he will be far better suited to Brazil in four years time.

"There's a major possibility [Bouzanis could go to Brazil]," Franken told Goal.com. "I'd like to think that he would continue to play at League Two level or possibly move into League One or Championship level like Adam Federici and Brad Jones; that's the level we'd expect him to be playing at and by all means he would be in contention for Brazil 2014."

Bouzanis came to Anfield with big wraps as a youngster and Franken believes if he continues to improve then things will only get better and he did not write off a spot in Pim Verbeek's squad to go to South Africa in June.

"He was signed at 16 years of age from Liverpool and one of the comments at the time coming from Liverpool was that he was the best they've seen for his age," he added.

"He's got an outside chance (for South Africa) and we'll obviously be discussing that with the coaching staff in the lead-up to the 9th of May (when the squad is selected). We've obviously got two or three goalkeepers in Australia (in contention)."
