Australia U20s suffer second defeat in World Cup

Australia suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Costa Rica in the FIFA U20 World Cup in Egypt overnight.

It was the Young Socceroos second loss from two group matches and effectively ends any hope of progressing to the next round.

Gold Coast United excitement machine Tahj Minniecon was the second Australian player to be shown a red card after Ryan McGowan's in the 2-1 loss to Czech Republic.

Minniecon was given his marching orders on the hour-mark when the score was 1-0 and his side was still a chance.

But a Luke DeVere own goal with seven minutes remaining ended that hope and the nail was put in the coffin in the final minute when Costa Rica scored again.

Australia sits on the bottom of the Group E table with no points and a goal difference of minus four whilst Brazil and the Czech Republic share top billing on four points and Costa Rica are third with three points.
