Australia skipper Neill buoyed by current depth of squad

Australian national team captain Lucas Neill says the Socceroos are in a great position with the amount of depth they currently have.

The Aussies cruised past Oman 3-0 in World Cup qualifying on Tuesday night without Tim Cahill, Mark Schwarzer, Brett Emerton and Harry Kewell with Rhys Williams, Adam Federici, Michael Zullo and Matthew Sprianovic all stepping up with impressive performances.

Neill admits it is a healthy problem for coach Holger Osieck to have as it only implores those who did not play against the Omanis to up their game for future internationals.

"Yeah, it is. It's great to have," the Al-Jazira defender said.

"Guys are missing out and those coming in are playing great.

"They've got a great attitude, they grabbed the opportunity that came their way and I think they've given the manager some nice selection problems and pitched a good presentation to be in line-up to play again.

"Good luck to the manager (sorting it out) but what a blessed position to be in."

And Neill added that the lesser known Socceroos players had improved to a point where the current situation surrounding Australian football is very positive.

"They're having to come out of the shadows," he added.

"Now these guys have to take responsibility for their own careers and they have to kick on.

"They have to play regularly at the best level they can get to and that in turn will benefit the Socceroos because they'll be playing good, hard, competitive games week in week out.

"We're going to need 30-40 players throughout the next two, three years.

"Who knows what the 23 (man squad) will be if we get to Brazil, but everyone has a chance now."
