Australia's Vidosic: Germany can cover Ballack absence

Australian forward Dario Vidosic believes the German national team have enough quality to cover for injured captain Michael Ballack.

Vidosic, who is contracted to German Bundesliga club Nuremberg but spent most of last season with second division outfit Duisburg, believes the Socceroos' Group D opening round opponent at next month's World Cup are good enough to not let the absence of Chelsea star Ballack, who will miss the entire tournament, worry them.

"It doesn't matter who is over there. I think we have to concentrate on ourselves and go with our game plan, it doesn't matter who we play against. Even for them (Germany), that will be a big loss but they've got the quality to bring someone in and do the job as well," Vidosic said.

The 23-year old was the hero for Australia on Monday night scoring an equaliser in the second half against New Zealand in a friendly in Melbourne and admitted it was a great feeling to score for his national side in front of plenty of supporters.

"I just thought 'turn and get the shot in' and I was glad to see it hit the net at the end. I just went to make that run, I'm not sure how the ball popped over and I just took that shot and had a look and saw it hit the back of the net. It was overwhelming, an unbelievable feeling. It's unbelievable, especially playing for the national team in front of such a lot of fans, 55,000, so it was just great," he added.

Vidosic also admitted the Socceroos started slowly but was confident the 2-1 result would give the squad some confidence going forward.

"I think it was okay. The first half maybe we were a little bit sluggish but I think that's normal. We've had a tough week and everyone's a little bit tired and we've been working really hard but I think in the end the boys have done very well. It was a good game and to get the win I think it's just going to be a big boost for everyone," he concluded.
