Australia's Osieck comfortable with Everton's Cahill in strike role

Australian national team coach Holger Osieck says he is comfortable with Everton's Tim Cahill playing as a striker. The 30-year old partnered Josh Kennedy in the Socceroos' front two in Saturday night's 1-0 win over Paraguay and Osieck was happy with Cahill's output.

"Tim has that special touch up front," Osieck said.

"He has all the ingredients. He is good in the air, he is good at controlling the ball, he is a good finisher.

"He has power in his strike, even from long distance, and you can only do that when you have an excellent shooting technique.

"Why waste him in the midfield, too far back?"

Osieck added that Cahill could easily end up being a striker and could form a solid relationship with either Kennedy or Scott McDonald.

"Tim matches well with Scott McDonald or Kennedy," he added.

"I think it's more important you have a pair that complements each other.

"I always try to pair different players and I will see which works best."
