Australia are the Asian Football Confederation's newest member, having joined in January 2006, and were the only association to announce their bid by the March 20 deadline.

The 2011 Asian Cup will take place in Doha after Qatar were chosen unopposed.

The Football Federation of Australia are also expected to bid for the right to host either the 2009 or the 2010 FIFA Club World Cup as they seek to make an impact on the world game.
