Australia buoyed as Kewell completes full training session

The Socceroos breathed a sigh of relief as Harry Kewell managed to get through his first full training session with the squad on Thursday. The Galatasaray star has been struggling with a groin injury all year and has been training away from the group in a bid to improve his fitness but with the World Cup just a week away, the coaching staff have ramped up his duties after a fortnight of lighter work.

Kewell got through unscathed but is expected to play no part in Saturday's warm-up clash with the USA in Roodepoort as head coach Pim Verbeek earmarks him for a substitute role in the opening match against Germany on June 13.

One player who would love to see Kewell fit and firing is national teammate Mile Jedinak who plays against the former Leeds and Liverpool man in the Turkish Super Lig.

"Harry up until he got injured was on fire," said Jedinak.

"He was easily the in-form player in Turkey, scoring goals in all competitions, and it was a real pleasure to watch him play.

"The whole of Turkey was talking about him which was great."
