Australia bow out of U20 World Cup

Australia have copped their third defeat in as many matches as they bow out of the FIFA U20 World Cup. Despite going a goal ahead against Brazil, the Young Socceroos floundered in the second half, eventually going down 3-1 at the Port Said Stadium in Egypt.

Bolton Wanderers midfielder Aaron Mooy opened up the Socceroos' account in the 14th minute and it looked as though the Aussies may make a fist of their encounter with the four-time champions.

But the Brazilians kicked into gear just before half-time, netting an equaliser through Ciro in the 34th minute.

It was after the break when A Selecao (The Selection) really turned it on, scoring twice to give the Australians no hope.

First it was Douglas Costa just after the hour-mark and then Paulo Henrique rounded it out nine minutes from time.

The loss ended the Young Socceroos' run in the competition, with zero points from three group stage matches.

In the other Group E clash, Czech Republic defeated Costa Rica allowing them to finish second on the table behind Brazil.

Costa Rica were third and Australia ended up on the bottom.
