Austin delighted at honour of being Leeds skipper

Leeds United midfielder Rodolph Austin was stunned when boss Brian McDermott asked him to be the club's captain. The Jamaican skippered the side for the first time since his appointment in Sunday's Championship 0-0 draw at Leicester City.

"I was shocked to be honest because I didn't know the gaffer had so much respect for me and saw me as a leader," he told BBC Radio Leeds.

"He called me to his office on Friday and I was blown away."

The 28 year old added: "I said I wanted some time to think about it but he insisted I take it because he thought I would do a good job.

"It's very pleasing to have been asked to do the job and an honour to be the captain of such a big club."
