Aussie youngster Davidson signs with Portuguese club

Australian teenager Jason Davidson has signed with Portuguese outfit Pacos de Ferreira. The 18-year old penned a three-year deal after being offered a contract by only one A-League club despite attracting interest from at least three clubs.

The Melbournian, who is the son of former Socceroos great Alan Davidson, held trials with European clubs Ankaragucu, Stuttgart and Sporting Lisbon and his father said he was a serious chance of playing first team football soon.

"The important thing is he's got a first-team contract, whereas a lot of the others were for youth team football,'' said Alan.

"It's a good league, a technical league, and that suits his game. If he knuckles down … he's a chance to play first team this season.''
