Three Australian representative teams are currently competing in Asian football competitions around the world. The Qantas Joeys have progressed through to the quarter-finals of the Asian Football Confederations (AFC) U16 Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan after their 2-1 victory over China. The win sees the Joeys sitting on top of their group and cannot be moved from there, regardless of results in the last match where they meet Turkmenistan. Coach Martyn Crook was pleased with his player's performance when he spoke to SBS. "We are delighted to come through with three points against quality opposition, it was a battle," he said after the match. "Our goal was to get through to the quarter-finals and we have done that so that is excellent. "This was a tough match and the first half was played at a high tempo. The Chinese suffered from this especially once we scored the second goal as they were out on their feet. Our boys did well considering all substitutions were early in the match and all due to injury or illness." Meanwhile, the Qantas Young Socceroos drew 0-0 with Korea Republic in their second match of the ASEAN U19 Youth Championships following up from their 3-1 rout of China just a few days ago and the Westfield Matildas are in Vietnam for the ASEAN Women's Championships which kick off this week where they will face Thailand, Philippines and Singapore.
