Aussie stars flourishing in Europe

Recent performances by Australians at European clubs must fill Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek with plenty of confidence heading into next month's World Cup qualifier. The match against Qatar on the 15th October in Brisbane could provide Verbeek with some selection quandaries if squad members continue their fantastic recent form. In Italy, midfielder Carl Valeri scored in Grosseto's Serie B away draw at Avellino overnight whilst Michael Baird got on the scoresheet for Universitatea Craoiva in their away win over Jacob Burns' club Unirea Urziceni in the Romanian Liga 1. Socceroos striker Scott McDonald played an important role in Celtic's 4-0 CIS Cup win over Livingston before being subbed late in the piece. Over in Turkey, Harry Kewell continued his great form on the weekend, scoring his second goal in two matches for Galatasaray
