Aussie passion working on ex-Newcastle, Leeds striker Viduka
If Mark Viduka is to pull on the boots in next season's A-League, Melbourne Victory's passionate support will have had a big say in the decision.
The former Celtic, Leeds United, Middlesbrough and Newcastle United striker hasn't kicked a ball in anger since leaving the Toon at the end of last season. Viduka has spent several months in his hometown Melbourne and been spotted at Victory games this season.
Victory Silver member Nicholas told tribalfootball.com: "Oh yeah, I've seen him. He sits in the stand with the rest of the fans. But no-one bothers or bugs him. He's been to a couple of games. He looks like he's enjoyed it."
So what shape is he in?
"Oh, he looks fit enough. Certainly, he doesn't look like he's put on any weight."
For the fourth season on the bounce, Victory will finish with an average home attendance of over 20,000.
Viduka has turned down all media requests since returning home, but has spoken to both Victory and Melbourne Heart officials about next season.
"I've spoken with him," Heart coach John van't Schip said this week.
"It was a good talk. We have made agreement we will catch up one day again and see how we can go on further."
