Aussie Dr Peter Brukner is breaking the mould at Liverpool.

Liverpool have appointed Brukner, who works with the Australian Socceroos, as their new head of sports science, although he will stay with the Aussies throughout their World Cup campaign.

The arrival of an Australian at Anfield makes a change from the legion of Spanish backroom staff brought in by manager Rafa Benitez.

The Daily Mail says although Benitez approves of the decision, it was made by managing director Christian Purslow.
