Atletico signing Torres: I want Real Madrid for my debut

Fernando Torres hopes to make his 'second' debut for Atletico Madrid in the Copa derby against Real Madrid. The former Liverpool and Chelsea striker spoke with media yesterday about his emotional return.

"I'll make my debut against Madrid, hopefully. [Atleti host Madrid in the Copa on 7 January] I hope they think I'm ready to do so. I want to enjoy the best moment in the history of the club and give it my all as I've always done, 100% committed, there won't be any doubt, it's what the fans demand.

"I know the club but I don't know this winning team, so I hope my teammates help me settle in as fast as possible. I've been in touch with Cholo, el Profe ('the teacher', Óscar Ortega, physical coach), some of the players and I feel very welcomed. I can't wait to stop talking and start playing there."

Asked for a message to Atleti fans, Torres added: "I've never been one to say things to them, they've told me everything. The love they've given me has been out of all proportion to what I've been able to give the club."
