Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo says the board is delighted with the way they spent the cash raised with the summer sale of Fernando Torres to Liverpool.

He said: "Fernando Torres left us, but we were able to sign important players like Diego Forlan, Simao and Luis Garcia. The club didn't cut any corners in efforts to build a great squad and I believe we've achieved it.

"This Atletico squad has no need to be envious of anyone."
