Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has revealed that Diego Costa is 'close' to returning to the club.
The Chelsea striker has been heavily linked with a move back to the Vicente Calderon Stadium and according to Cerezo, it appears as though a homecoming transfer could be high on the agenda of Atleti.
"We like him a lot, I'll admit," Cerezo was quoted as saying.
"We are talking to the player and working on him returning to Madrid.
"It's close, but I can't say anymore."
However, Cerezo was quick to contact Spanish publication AS in an attempt to play down his previous statement.
"I do not speak of players at other clubs," he said.
Costa is believed to be desperate to make the move back to Spain, according to multiple reports, but there is contrary speculation suggesting he wants to stay at Stamford Bridge and fight for his place in Antonio Conte's side despite the £33million signing of Michy Batshuayi from Marseille.
