Atletico Madrid have made contact with Maxi Rodriguez's minders about opening new contract talks.

The Argentina international's current deal expires in June and while he is no longer an automatic first-choice, Atletico management believe the midfielder still has plenty to offer.

Atletico have already secured Diego Forlan and Jurado to new deals this week and Maxi could be next to put pen to paper.
