Atletico Madrid boss Quique Sanchez Flores was extremely proud to have lead his side into the Europa League final as the only Spanish team to do so this season.

Los Rojiblancos overcame a spirited Liverpool to qualify for the final on away goals despite being beaten 2-1 in the second leg and Flores was delighted with the unexpected result.

"No one would have expected this," said Flores.

"We are happy to represent our country and be Spain's only team in a European final.

"It was an amazing night. You can't come to Anfield without knowing you are going to suffer some difficult moments but we were the stronger side in extra-time and deserved to go through."

Flores was remaining very cautious of Fulham who they will meet in the final at Hamburg's Nordbank Arena on May 12.

"Never trust any team that goes all the way to the final," he added.

"Any English team will be very competitive and Fulham are no exception."
