Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo admits they tried to sign Chelsea striker Diego Costa.

Both parties flirted with eachother over the summer.

Atleti were tipped to re-sign Costa from Chelsea during the summer transfer window but struggled to persuade Chelsea to part ways with the Spain international.

Cerezo praised the fiery forward and admits they tried to bring him back to the Vicente Calderon, adding: “Costa is a magnificent player. We had the option to bring him back, but Chelsea did not let him leave."
