Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo is standing by underfire coach Javier Aguirre.

After defeat to Real Valladolid last night, fans at the Vicente Calderon turned on Aguirre calling for his dismissal.

But Cerezo said: "Fans are angry and they have a right to be. We've had an awful January. It is the players who must score goals and win games. All I can do is encourage them.

"I spoke with them and the coach. But I am not raising (the prospect of sacking Aguirre) ...."
