Atletico Madrid midfielder Tiago Mendes has no regrets over his time with Champions League opponents Chelsea.

Although he hopes to help the Spanish side dash Chelsea's European hopes, the Portuguese admitted his time with the Blues was special.

"It was a great year here, unforgettable for me," said Mendes, who won the Premier League, and League Cup during his one season in English football.

"They still have the same manager [Jose Mourinho] and some of the same team-mates. It's a special game but it's the semis of the Champions League and we need to be focused.

"We are focused on tomorrow and if I do get the chance to play I will try to do my best and if we all do our best we have a chance to make it to the final in Lisbon.

"We are an experienced team. It is true we haven't been in the Champions League over the last few years but we have great confidence and are capable and ready to take on anyone. We are very excited and it's a great opportunity. We want to enjoy the game and get through to the final."
