Atletico Madrid midfielder Tiago has announced his international retirement from Portugal.

The 29 year-old former Chelsea star is now devoting his time fully to Atletico.

Tiago said: "I do it for personal reasons, but also because I have realized that a cycle has come to an end regarding my contribution to the Selecao, and at the same time I consider the time has come to give opportunity to new players of the Portuguese football to have their space, just like I had eight years ago.

"It was a pride and an honour to represent the Portuguese team in all squads."
