Atletico Madrid legend Paulo Futre admits Cristiano Ronaldo has "enemies" in Portugal.
Futre says there are people in Portugal that still prefer Lionel Messi to Cristiano Ronaldo, despite the Real Madrid star helping his country win the European Championships this year.
Ronaldo is widely adored in his homeland, but Futre feels that it's not enough.
“Cristiano is Portuguese, he has done everything, is a European champion," the former Atletico Madrid player told El Larguero.
"But he has many enemies there — for the way he is. He is very direct, and creates many enemies in his own country.
"There was a time when many people used to chant 'Messi, Messi, Messi' outside the Portugal team hotel, which was shameful."
