Atletico Madrid are launching a bid for Tottenham winger David Bentley.

The Mirror says the Spurs winger has struggled to settle at White Hart Lane after his £15million move from Blackburn last summer.

Bentley, 24, has lost his first-team place and Spurs are ready to cut their losses.

Atletico were among a clutch of clubs vying for his signature before Spurs landed the England international. Atletico are now back in the frame, which would give Bentley regular games to try to win a World Cup place under Fabio Capello.

A big-money move abroad would also appeal to Bentley after a depressing year in North London.
