Atletico Madrid are ready to join the race for Werder Bremen star Diego.

AS says Atletico will move for the Brazil international if they clinch Champions League qualification this season.

Atletico's board have already agreed to devote the majority of this summer's transfer budget to a quality central midfield signing - and Diego fits the bill. Werder are seeking £17 million as a starting price - but expect Diego to attract bids of over £25 million, with the likes of Chelsea, Newcastle, Real Madrid and Juventus all chasing his signature.
