Atletico Madrid fullback Filipe Luis undergoes successful surgery

Atletico Madrid fullback Filipe Luis has undergone successful surgery.

Marca reports Luis has left hospital after successfully being operated on a fractured leg on Friday and he will be out of action for eight weeks, that means he still has a chance of being ready for the World Cup.

The Atletico Madrid fullback picked up the injury after being kicked by Eder during the Europa League clash with Lokomotiv Moscow on Thursday.

The Portuguese was shaping to shoot, when Filipe knocked the ball away and Eder made contact with the back of his leg.

"Filipe Luis is an extraordinary player on the ball and gives us the option of linking up a lot on the left wing," coach Diego Simeone said.

"He has already had several injuries this season and we've compensated.

"We can play there with Lucas, with Sergi [Gonzalez, a youth teamer] or with Saul Niguez, who has played there before too."
