Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin has been granted Spanish citizenship.
The Uruguay international has followed the lead of Real Madrid's Brazilian full-back Marcelo in swearing his allegiance to the Spanish constitution, allowing him to no longer be classified as a non-EU player.
That in turn could allow Atleti to pursue a move for Espanyol's Argentinian striker Pablo Osvaldo, who has been mooted as a possible replacement for the Manchester City-bound Sergio Aguero.
