Atletico Madrid defender Alvaro Dominguez says they're serious about challenging the dominance of Real Madrid and Barcelona this season.

Atletico kicked off the campaign winning the European Super Cup against Inter Milan.

Dominguez said: "We want to be the alternative to Real Madrid and Barcelona (for the title), but we've only gone one round and it's too early to say.

"We have some difficult and important clashes coming up, but we have to face them in the best possible way and we'll see how things are after the next few weeks."
