The Frenchman has been linked with a move away for some time, but he was pivotal in that win and Simeone was keen to recognise that.
"If I were an Atletico fan I would do all I could not to lose Griezmann, I would invite them to think about the team from the coach, the club and the fans," he said.
"He's a fantastic lad, with hope, happiness, humility and a huge heart for the group.
"He makes the dressing room and is always involved in giving out a message of joy and enthusiasm every day."
The coach even went so far as to say he is one of the best that he has seen at the club.
"We have had the luck to see many players grow, from Lucas [Hernandez], Thomas [Partey], [Jan] Oblak, [Jose] Gimenez, Saul [Niguez]... Griezmann is the one who has shown the work of the coaching team and the efforts of the footballer," he explained.
"Greizmann, when he has freedom, is important and decisive and he needs that freedom and I want him to have it because when he is good, he always makes good choices."
