Simao Sabrosa managed to cancel out Robbie Keane's opener for Liverpool to rescue a point for Atletico and Aguirre smiled afterwards: "You always want to win, but we can be happy with this draw.

"The team played well in the second-half. Let's see if this point helps us in the future."

On criticism from the media in the last week, Aguirre added: "I think that I am a professional and that others are as well. When a team has three defeats, criticism is normal. My profession and the journalists are connected. Those are the rules of the game.

"It is normal that the coach is identified as being responsible."
