Agudelo, just 18, has been a revelation since breaking into the New York first team to play alongside former Barcelona and Arsenal star Thierry Henry.
Such is the hype that Atletico chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin flew to the US to make a personal check on Agudelo last week.
New York have a good association with Spanish football courtesy of their deals with former Barca pair Henry and Rafa Marquez.
