Atletico Madrid attacker Saul: Pique should stay away from social media

Atletico Madrid attacker Saul Niguez believes Spain teammate Gerard Pique should avoid Twitter.

The Barcelona centre-back had criticised the actions of the Spanish Police during the Catalan referendum vote on Sunday.

"If he could have avoided it, maybe he should have," Saul said to Eduardo J. Castelao.

"I personally would not have done it, but that's me."

Though Saul and Pique may have political differences, on the pitch there is no reproaching the defender.

"Gerard always puts on the shirt of the national team and gives everything," Saul noted.

"He can't be reproached.

"There may be different opinions, but speaking of football, he can't be blamed for anything."

Despite this, the atmosphere surrounding the team is affecting them.

"In the national team we are not just thinking about football, it's complicated for everyone," he said.

"In the end, when you play on a pitch and a teammate gets whistled, we don't like it."
