Diego Simeone is looming as favourite to succeed Gregorio Manzano as Atletico Madrid coach.

Manzano is expected to be shown the door by Atletico during the winter break, though they're having trouble landing their priority replacement.

Former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has so far resisted Atletico's overtures.

But former Atletico captain Simeone is now on the radar after he quit his job at Racing Club in Argentina. The former midfielder resigned after feeling he didn't have the full support of the Racing board.
