Manchester United are eyeing Atletico Madrid star Diego Forlan. Tutto Mercato Web claims Inter Milan are interested in signing the Uruguayan hit man but will face competition from United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

The 31-year-old forward spent two years at Old Trafford between 2002-04 but left after scoring just 10 goals in 63 games for the Red Devils.

He moved to Villarreal where he regained his form and scored 54 goals in 106 La Liga games before joining Atletico Madrid in 2007 where he continued his impressive form, and helped the club win the Europa League last season.

He also won the Golden Ball award for being the best player at the World Cup in South Africa.
