Former Celtic captain Billy McNeill has sparked some controversy this week by turning people's minds back to the 1974 European match between the Hoops and tonight's opponents Atletico Madrid.
The ex-Celtic skipper labeled the '74 Atletico side as 'scum' following the heated battle in the European Cup semi-final which the Spaniards won 2-0 on aggregate.
Former Atletico players have been stunned by the criticism and now current day manager Gregorio Manzano has called for all off-field talk to stop and let today's players get on with their job of playing football.
"I'm certainly aware of it, I've read, I've watched or I've observed," Manzano said.
"But I've not spoken about this subject to my players. I've only watched from a distance.
"But what has happened in the past is in the past.
"It's now about what happens here and I hope to see both here and in Glasgow in November a good game, played in the right spirit. Proper football matches if you like.
"We're talking about the future now and the present.
"What happened then is all part of history and hasn't got anything to do with what's happening on the field now."
